ABOUT US
The VietIrishSouth support group was founded in 2001 by Angelique, Helena and Miriam after they adopted their children from Vietnam.
The primary focus of the group is to organise events for parents and children to meet and to get to know each other and to keep the Vietnamese culture and traditions alive with our adopted children here in Ireland. It is also a great source of support for parents on their journey through the adoption process.
VietIrishSouth worked closely in the early days with the Adoption Board during the negotiations for the Bi-Lateral Agreement with Vietnam and in 2004, in recognition of the great work done by the founding members, funding was received from the Department of Health and Children.
VietIrishSouth took on a new lease of life in 2006. Angelique, Helena and Miriam decided to retire as committee members and a new committee was appointed. With the new committee also came a slight change of name - it was decided that VietIrishSouth would now become VietIrishSupport as the name better reflects what we do as a group and the name change would also remove any limitations that the word 'South' might suggest.
2006 and 2007 and 2008 were great years for VietIrishSupport with a big increase in membership and great support from members at the events during the course of the year. We currently have over 250 member families and 511 adopted Vietnamese children across the country.
Going forward into the future we hope to continue the fantastic work done by the founding members and build on the support, friendship and help that we as a growing family can share.
The 'Helping Hands Agency' have been a great support to us and VietIrishSupport will continue to liaise with the Adoption Board and the Mediation Agency for matters of interest to the group.
